Problem solving

When the emotion fits the facts, change the situation.

Steps

  • Describe the problem situation.
  • Check the facts — make sure it’s the right problem.
  • Pick a simple, realistic goal: what needs to change for you to feel effective?
  • Brainstorm every solution, no judging yet. Ask people you trust.
  • Choose one or two likely to work; do pros and cons.
  • Act. Take the first step, then the next.
  • Evaluate. If it didn’t work, try another solution.
